Dr. Robert C. Hanea is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of  Therme Group, a leading global technology company and integrator of health, sustainability and recreation concepts. Its mission is to bring wellbeing to all by creating the world’s most advanced experiences to enhance mind, body and soul.

Mr. Hanea serves on the boards of several investment companies, architecture and law practices. He currently maintains co-chair positions on the boards of various foundations dedicated to education and medical support programs.

Stelian S. Iacob is the COO of Therme Group where he focuses on all aspects of facility operation, and also manages the A-Heat Group real estate fund.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Iacob oversaw operations at Therme Group’s facility in Bucharest, where he focused on improving service quality and reputational and brand enhancement through the development and retention of key talent.

Mr. Iacob holds an LL.M. from the Romanian-German University of Sibiu.

Viorel Beltechi is the CEO of Therme Group Asia and also serves as the VP of Corporate Affairs within the Therme Group Worldwide Executive Advisory Board. An experienced diplomat, he played key roles working in various government departments, particularly in the energy sector.

Among his many achievements were promoting and developing the economic relationship between Romania and China, as well as coordinating the energy sector in the 16+1 Central and Eastern Europe cooperation with China.

Being a lawyer and management professional his whole career, Sekutowicz was also founding director of TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art and publisher of art related books.

The work of Professor Burmeister is characterized by pursuing excellence in engineering. Optimizing structural solutions to create architectural freedom is part of his performance spectrum. The aim is to realize structures that are, of course, safe, but also economical and beautiful. The solid basis of consequent optimization is the application of numerical simulation together with expertise in design and construction.

His work as a CEO of Delta-X engineering company is characterized by implementing high-tech numerical simulations to a broad spectrum of engineering solutions out of structural engineering, machinery and plant engineering together with automotive applications.

Scientific lecturing and activities derive from structural dynamics, stability and nonlinear behavior.

Philipp H. Treml is the Head of R&D at Therme Group, where he supports the integration of complex technologies in various investments around the world. This includes leading the team that implemented the geothermal heating and treatment installations at Therme’s Bucharest facility.

Prior to joining Therme Group, Mr. Treml oversaw the development and implementation of new technologies with A-Heat AG and its subsidiaries in Germany, Hungary, Mexico, and Indonesia.

Mr. Treml holds a BSC in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Applied Sciences in Vienna, Austria.

Elvira Calugaritoiu is the Executive Vice President of Corporate Operations at Therme Group, where she leads the operational finance team, overseeing HR, F&B, and ERP implementation.

Prior to joining Therme Group, Ms. Calugaritoiu was a board member at Domo Retail SA, having previously led their expansion. As a board member, she coordinated developments from site evaluation through to negotiation, acquisition, and restructuring and network strategy team. Before joining Domo, Ms. Calugaritoiu had been a leading role in the expansion of Kaufland Romania, a company of the world`s leading retailer Schwarz Gruppe.

Ms. Calugaritoiu holds a BBA from the Academy of Economic Sciences in Bucharest, where she graduated summa cum laude in Management, Marketing and Accounting.

Mr. Maelzer joined Therme Group in 2018 as a full member of the team and is in charge of the Leisure Department at Therme.

Mr. Maelzer is the co-founder of WiegandMaelzer GmbH, a company dedicated to the sale, development and realization of leisure facilities in water and theme parks. With twenty years experience in the leisure industry, Mr. Maelzer has implemented world-class award winning
attractions, from various Therme projects, up to custom solutions on cruise ships.

Mr. Maelzer holds a MBA degree from the University of Innsbruck, as well as an Engineering degree from University of Applied Sciences, Innsbruck.

Edelfried Balle is Chief Executive Officer of Therme ARC GmbH, the German-based architecture and design division of Therme Group. As of 2017 he has been CEO of the entire WUND Group West which comprises high quality leisure and thermal spa facilities in Germany – Badeparadies Schwarzwald in the Black Forest, Therme Sinsheim near Stuttgart and Heidelberg, and Therme Euskirchen near Cologne.

All facilities cumulated welcome circa two million guests per year and employ a total of circa 350 persons directly, and a further 350 contracted workers.

Previously he was a member of the executive board and Chief Financial Officer of several companies and real estate projects within the WUND Group. He joined the WUND Group in 2010.

After his academic graduation in 1987 he immediately assumed a superior management assignment in a large German construction company. In 1990 he opened his own company. The firm consulted to construction companies in the fields of business, economics, and IT development. It was sold successfully after four years.

His subsequent career took him to senior management positions as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in large international construction enterprises, including F. KIRCHHOFF AG and STRABAG AG. Throughout his career his main field of competence has been in strategic business development, reorganization, and restructuring.

After gaining an engineering degree in construction management from the University of Karlsruhe, Heiko Wollmann joined the WUND architectural firm in 1997 as a project manager.

After the successful completion of very large projects—among them, several hospitals, the Hanover Fairground in Germany, and the Innsbruck Football Stadium in Austria—he was appointed to the executive board of the WUND Group of Companies.

He is in charge of the development of all new Therme Group projects and leads the existing operations of the largest spa facilities in the Black Forest, Sinsheim, and Cologne-Euskichen.

Hans Ulrich Obrist is Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries, London. Prior to this, he was the Curator of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Since his first show “World Soup” (The Kitchen Show) in 1991, he has curated more than 300 shows.

Obrist’s recent publications include Mondialité, Conversations in Colombia, Ways of Curating, The Age of Earthquakes with Douglas Coupland and Shumon Basar, and Lives of The Artists, Lives of The Architects.

Francis Kéré’s architectural practice has been recognized nationally and internationally with awards including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (2004) for his first building, a primary school in Gando, Burkina Faso, and the Global Holcim Award 2012 Gold. He has developed innovative construction strategies that combine traditional building techniques and materials with modern engineering methods.

In 2017 the Serpentine Galleries commissioned him to design the Serpentine Pavilion in London.

Frida Escobedo’s award-winning work has focused mainly on reactivating urban spaces that are considered to be residual or forgotten. She was co-director of the architectural firm Perro Rojo for four years. In 2004 she was awarded the Scholarship for Young Creators by the National Fund for Arts and Culture (FONCA) and in 2008 she was selected by Herzog & de Meuron as one of the architectural studios to participate in the Ordos 100 Project in Inner Mongolia, China. In 2009, she was a winner of the Young Architects Forum, organised by the Architectural League of New York. In 2013, she was selected as one of the three finalists for the Architecture programme at the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative and was nominated for the Arc Vision Prize for Women and the Iakov Chernikhov Prize. In 2014, she was selected as a finalist for the Designs of the Year at the Design Museum in London and was nominated for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize of the Illinois Institute of Technology. In 2014, she won the Ibero-American Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism Prize (IX BIAU) in Rosario, Argentina. In 2017, she received the Emerging Voices Award by the Architectural League of New York.

Lonneke Gordijn, alongside Ralph Nauta, founded Studio Drift in 2007. Their focus is creating multi-disciplinary site-specific interactive installations, sculptures, objects and films, which propose a distinct mix between the latest science fiction inspired hi-tech developments and their poetic imagery.

Their work explores existing and new relationships between nature, technology and mankind, are in the collections of the V&A Museum in London, the San Francisco MoMA, the Louis Vuitton Foundation, The Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum.

Sarah Wilson is an art historian and curator focusing on contemporary global art, with special interests in post-war and Cold War Europe, the USSR and Russia today. Recent publications include The Visual World of French Theory, Figurations, 2010, (2018, French) and Picasso/Marx and socialist realism in France, 2013. She co-curated the 1st Asian Biennale /5th Guangzhou Triennale, 2014-5 and received the 2015 International Association of Art Critics award for Distinguished contribution to art criticism.

Egill Sæbjörnsson works with the source of language as both a human and non-human phenomena and the multitude of meanings they inhabit. With the technology of new media, his subjects, often sculptural or drawn, are given voices and mannerisms in an examination of the relationship between humans and their environment.

Nothing is too trivial or grandiose for the artist as he uses new media in a manner similar to a paintbrush, seamlessly bridging traditional and new media.

Sara Faraj studied psychology in Warsaw and art management in New York, afterwards working for a UAE based art fund. In 2017, Sara joined Therme Art Program’s team and helped create the international Advisory Board.

As Secretary of Therme Art Program Advisory Board, Sara oversees the management of Therme Art Program Advisory Board and Therme Art Program Artists.

Sara is an integral member of the team, representing Therme Art Program and Therme Group at international events and conferences, broadening Therme’s network, audience, and partners.

She serves on the board as a member and has been its Secretary since the beginning of 2018.

James is an accomplished business leader with over 25 years’ experience working with many of the UK’s flagship venues.   A former Executive Board Director of ExCeL London, James held P&L responsibility for both commercial and operational divisions, including ExCeL’s participation in the 2012 London Olympic & Paralympic Games.  James led the development and implementation of many core management systems and was integral to the construction of London’s ICC and in delivering a new commercial services strategy for the business.

 

Other recent roles include Venue General Manager of the London Olympic Stadium for the 2017 World Athletics Championships and Independent Technical Advisor to the UK Government, Department of International Trade, supporting the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.  James is also Chairman of the charity Reverence for Life UK.

 

As company Director for Therme Group UK, James shares responsibility for the strategic planning and tactical implementation of the Therme UK businesses.

With over 18 years of experience within the construction sector and a background in building services, Richard has branched into project and development management.

Before joining Therme he worked with Arup and WSP as an engineer, running the M&E Department for WSP in Romania, designing large commercial projects.

He subsequently joined a large Pan-European fund, with a value of ~€3 billion with properties in Sweden, Germany, Poland and Romania, that develop assets throughout Europe and adding value to existing assets as well as developing new. Following this, he founded his own consultancy company, offering engineering and project management services to projects throughout Europe and the UK.

Duncan is a marketer and entrepreneur with a background in sports, leisure, entertainment, media and events. His early career was with The Guardian newspaper during the launch of its website, now a major global online force.

Through his career he has worked with world-leading consumer and professional events organizers and venues including Telegraph Events, ExCeL London and Chatham House. In 2011 he founded a successful resort-specialist ski holiday company and more recently a digital marketing agency, helping clients to succeed in the digital world.

As a digital expert, Duncan believes technology has the power to transform businesses, deliver exceptional experiences and have a positive impact on the world. His personal passions include active and adventure travel, skiing and running.

Pierre Lafontaine serves as Executive Vice President, Therme Group Canada, leading the company’s expansion into North America, and focusing on how Therme can meet the wellness and relaxation needs of Canadians.

Mr. Lafontaine is one of Canada’s most distinguished sports leaders and brings a wealth of experience to Therme Group Canada, having served as CEO and national coach of Swimming Canada, Canadian Interuniversity Sport, and Cross Country Canada.

Mr. Lafontaine holds a BSC in Biology from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.

Riyaz Dattu is a Board Member for Therme Group North America and the International Trade and Investment Law Practice Head at Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP in Toronto. Mr. Dattu advises multinational and domestic businesses on international trade compliance, international trade policy and investment matters, international trade strategies, and market-access concerns.

Mr. Dattu has been counsel in more than 45 Canadian and international trade remedies proceedings, 13 challenges under Chapter 19 of NAFTA and the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement, and 24 proceedings before the Federal Court of Canada.

Mr. Dattu holds an LL.B. from the University of Toronto and an LLM in Taxation from York University – Osgoode Hall Law School.

Patricia Popescu is the Head of Architecture at Therme ARC, where her competence in architecture, design, and strategic planning has enabled her to expand and refine Therme Group’s practical expertise in how it builds its facilities.

Prior to joining Therme Group, Ms. Popescu ran a private architecture practice, where she gained experience across diverse areas including interior design, commercial, and urban planning.

Ms. Popescu is a graduate of the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urban Planning in Bucharest, holding an MArch. She is also a member of the Romanian Order of Architects.

Peter Häusler has dedicated almost his entire professional life to building and sustaining the WUND Group of Companies, i.e. the Wund Therme Group. He is now in the project development of THERME facilities.

His extensive background includes studies of Architecture in Germany and California, USA, senior management positions in various companies of the Wund group, the project development of the Thermal Spa Munich-Erding and several years as general manager of the operating company for the initial four years.

Parallel to full-time work, he received his MBA in International Real Estate Management in 2011.

Before joining Therme Group, Mariana was involved in the events & exhibition industry, for 18 years holding various positions within the biggest exhibition center in Romania, including Managing Director.

Mariana holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing & International Relations, followed by post-graduate studies in Human Resources Management, Quality Management and Trade Fair Management.

With an eye for details, she manages to see beyond the obvious in our projects and brings new and out-of-the box ideas, improved strategies, by tactfully setting and overcoming new boundaries.

Alongside her team, Mariana is one of our key assets in developing interesting, outstanding and suitable projects.

As Strategic Cultural Advisor, Elena Morariu oversees the Department of Cultural Programming and artistic projects within Therme Group. She serves as a liaison between Therme Group and Therme Art Program by creating comprehensive strategies that integrate artistic projects into Therme Group’s facilities.

Prior to joining the company, Ms. Morariu spent over a decade in the publishing and media industries, holding positions such as editor-in-chief and PR manager. Ms. Morariu’s previous experience also includes collaborations with foreign cultural institutions.

Cosmin is the Wellness Manager at Therme, where his knowledge in aromatherapy, homeopathy and kinesiology are put to good use, towards aiding our clients to take care of their health through prevention. His passion for herbalism, fitness and other alternative therapies is yielded to create the holistic wellbeing rituals our clients experience every day at Therme.

Prior to joining Therme Group, Cosmin worked as a therapist for muscle and joint injuries in hospitals as well as being the Spa Manager on cruise ships, commandeering a team of therapists, cosmeticians, personal trainers and supplement sales agents.

Cosmin holds a Bachelors degree in Kinetic-therapy and Special Motor Skills and is currently attending a Master of Arts in Intercultural Management.

Mrs. Kopf holds a M.Sc. in architecture from University of Siegen, Germany, and is a member of the ‘Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects’.

Johannes Flügel is the Head of the Architecture Department at Therme ARC, where he is in charge of the design and execution planning of thermal spa facilities all over the world. This includes leading the team of the architects of Therme ARC GmbH in Markdorf.
Prior to joining Therme ARC, Mr. Flügel worked at the Architekturbüro WUND, Friedrichshafen, where he was engaged among other projects in the design and realization of several large spas in Germany.
Mr. Flügel holds a diploma in architecture from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, and is a member of the German Chamber of Architects.

Ingrid Strobel works at ThermeArc as an interior designer specializing in design and layout.

Prior to joining ThermeArc, she worked for the Josef Wund Group for many years and was involved in planning major bathing and hotel projects in Erding, Sinsheim, Euskirchen and Titisee-Neustadt.

At the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden, she holds a degree in Design, Interior Architecture with Dipl.Ing. completed.

MA study in Hertfordshire / London / England.
After her graduation she worked in renowned design departures f.e. Harrods in London.

Maximilian Schorer is on the interior design team of ThermeARC, his primary responsibilities include the entire design process from concept sketches to detailed construction documentation. He also specializes in 3D CAD modeling and renderings. He holds a Master Craftsman title.
Prior to joining ThermeARC, he worked on the interior design team of the Wund Group which has realized several large Therme and hotel projects in Germany, e.g. Therme Sinsheim, Therme Euskirchen near Cologne and Hotel Victory Erding near Munich.

In her function as Director of the Planning Department, Zoia is responsible for identifying trends and drivers that influence and affect our business strategy. She is involved in analyzing the impacts of our buildings on both the urban and natural environments and sets them in the particular context of the region.

Her engagement with Therme Group extends from concept and design through space planning to tender documentation – for existing buildings as well as concept-phase buildings like the Events and Exhibition Centre. Her experience includes such projects as office buildings – IBM Romania, BCR ERSTE Bank, Mercedes offices, Timpuri Noi Offices, retail and residential buildings and restoration projects in Bucharest, where she was involved in concept design, permit process, and coordinating and supervising contractors on site.

Zoia holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Faculty of Architecture, Spiru Haret University, in Bucharest Romania.
